Advise on and facilitate implementation of World Class strategic procurement for Ma’aden and its affiliates and joint ventures. A multi-billion US$ operation running and developing Gold, Phosphate and Aluminium mining, processing and associated infrastructure. This included designing and implementing:

  •  A supplier registration and evaluation procedure: including on-line registration and pre-qualification. Now live and in use.
  • New organisation structures, job descriptions, skills audits, training and recruitment.

  • Establish and implement Divisional training to significantly up skill Procurement.

  • Lead and managed team of 14 responsible for spend of £428m. Global category owner for Energy, Financial Services and Mobile Airtime procurement.
  • Team delivered £12m savings FY06/07, over double the target.
  • Team delivered £32m savings for FY07/08, against a target of £24m
  • Re-negotiated improved contract for outsourced financial services processing in India.
  • Successfully led negotiations to extend electricity supply contracts, securing “green” supply for a further 3 years.  Implemented global “green” supply policy and procurement strategy to mitigate against increasing Energy costs. One of the largest energy contracts in Europe,
  • Member of Renewable Energy Steering Group. Managed procurement activity for UK Wind Farm project and USA Solar Power project.
  • Active role on Climate Change and Carbon Reduction teams, including influencing UK government planned legislation on carbon reduction, with CBI and EEF.

Feb 05 – Oct 06 – Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions

Part of US Listed multinational conglomerate.

European Purchasing Director – based in Netherlands Germany and France.

  • Introduced professional purchasing to European fire and security solutions businesses. Operations in 16 continental European countries, involved in manufacture, sales, installations, and servicing of fire detection and suppression systems and security, paging and access control systems.
  • Recruit, develop, train and lead team to take responsibility for Euro 400m annual spend, supplier sourcing and management, and total supply chain.
  • Re-engineer purchasing and supply chain processes, ensuring compliance with corporate policy and Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, in each country.
  • Represented Procurement on senior group wide ERP implementation team.
  • Develop and implement savings budgets, taking responsibility for delivering targets. Achieved Euros 3.15m approved savings in FY04/05 and Euros 6.65m in FY05/06. Projects ready for implementation would achieve Euros 13.09m savings for FY06/07. Supported Cash Flow by negotiating an additional Euros 5.6m payment deferrals at end of FY05/06.
  • Work with other Group segments on strategic sourcing initiatives and reverse auctions where appropriate, including leading three group wide Ariba projects which will deliver savings of Euros 13.09m (17%).
  • Led successful negotiations on two pan European deals, one for CCTV equipment from leading European supplier and one for specialised fire suppression systems from patent holder. Both competed with in-house produced systems requiring visible make v buy analysis and sensitive stakeholder handling.
  • Improved inter-company supply relationships including developing use of integrated lean supply chain systems.
  • Led the implementation of group sourcing deals on indirect areas of spend; including use of eAuctions e.g. Group Temporary labour for France saving over 20% on current cost.
  • Introduced supplier rationalisation and payment term improvement projects.

UK Charity responsible for administering national treasures.

Procurement Manager – Interim Position.

  • Outsourced payroll function of 12 people to third party supplier, saving £200k per annum; and significantly improving management information and reports. Achieved against strong cultural resistance to change from established functions.
  • Worked with legal department to create standard purchasing terms and contract templates.

July 01 – Sept 04 – Novar Plc.

UK Listed global conglomerate manufacturing intelligent building systems, aluminium extrusions and security printing.

  • Managing major projects e.g. Outsourcing the manufacture of telecommunications products from in-house German factory production to East European sub-contract manufacturer and establishing new supply chain and inventory management procedures. Annualised savings of £850k (20%) achieved.
  • Sourcing new products / suppliers for Fire and Security markets to increase sales by £2m pa, negotiating contracts and setting up supply chains, in and out of the UK.
  • Supporting major contract negotiations and new acquisitions integration.
  • Troubleshooting throughout procurement division.

July 01 – Mar 03 – Regional Sourcing Manager – India.  Based in Chennai.                                                        

  • Set up regional sourcing company £1m t/o.  (1 staff in India)
  • Moved to India to establish sourcing office. Quickly integrated with management team at local manufacturing subsidiary.
  • Increased group spend in region threefold to £1.1m in FY 2003.
  • Negotiated cost downs with existing electrical assembly manufacturer producing savings of £53k 17%.
  • Re-sourced emergency lighting from Chinese to Indian supplier producing savings of £225k, 20%. This involved new tooling, supplier selection, setting up new supply chain and close liaison with business stakeholders.
  • Recruited and trained local replacement.
  • Led on re-engineering of Regional Sourcing Offices processes and recruited new teams for previously established Hong Kong and Malaysia offices.
  • Founder member Chennai British and Foreign Business Groups, establishing direct dialogue with State Government. Represented UK at first meeting with State Chief Minister.
  • Prior to moving to India, I successfully outsourced the plastic moulding and metal presswork operations of a new acquisition. This involved quickly moving supply from internal manufacturing facilities, souring new suppliers and setting up reliable supply chains. This was achieved to a very demanding timescale.

  • Annual spend £70m (staff numbers 13 in UK, 6 in Germany, 4 in France and 1 in Spain).
